"Beyond the basics" Computer Classes for Seniors
Do you know your way around your computer a little but would like to learn some tips and tricks? Are you unsure of what the best Internet resources are and how to find them? Try taking our “Beyond the Basics” class with longtime teacher Carol Soucy. Class meets on three consecutive Thursday mornings, May 23 & 30 & June 6 from 8:30-10 am at the Rowley Public Library, 141 Main St. Space is limited so call 978-948-2850 to register. Prerequisite: students should have a basic familiarity with Windows.
Rowley Book Club meets Thursday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m.
This month the Rowley Library Book Club is reading The Grief of Others by Leah Hager Cohen. How do you balance personal decisions with family obligations? This question is at the heart of one family’s pain as they cope with unexpected grief and a dark secret. But just as the family is on the brink of collapse, a surprise visitor gives them hope and a chance at a new beginning. Hatha Yoga continues through the spring
Wednesdays, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., Community Room
Students are led through a series of stretches, strengthening and balancing postures, twists and inversions by certified yoga instructor Maura Mastrogiovanni. No registration is required, and all fitness levels are welcome. Bring a mat if you have one and wear comfortable clothes. Class meets every Wednesday evening in the Rowley Library community room from 5:30-7 pm. Cost is $12 or $10 for Friends members. Call 978-948-2850 for more information. More Info >>
ROWLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY PRESENTS DISCOVERY KITS
The Rowley Public Library won an important grant in the amount of $7,500 from the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. The funds will be used to develop Discovery Kits to assist educators at the middle and elementary schools, homeschooling families and lifelong learners in our service community. More Info >>

Fun at Local Museums!
Museum Pass collection expanded
Thanks to the Friends of the Rowley Library, the Rowley Cultural Council, and a private donation, the library has the opportunity to purchase more museum memberships, allowing our patrons to reserve and borrow passes for discounted admission to the area's cultural organizations. 2013 Book and Bake Sale
This year's sale raised over $3900. The money will fund library programs including ongoing computer classes, the monthly book club and the Children's Summer Reading Program and much more. Cub Scout Pack #15 ran the Bake Sale for us again this year. In addition, 58 volunteers worked 249 hours to sort, move and sell books. Click here to see the list of volunteers. We are grateful to everyone who donated books, as well as the following local businesses and organizations: St. Mary’s Church, Institution for Savings, MAC Fitness, EBSCO Publishing, The Rowley Board of Selectmen, Pine Grove School, Market Basket, Rowley Gas Exchange, the Rowley Council on Aging, Rowley Catering, and PYM Photography.
Local artist’s watercolors in spotlight
This month the Rowley Public Library is hosting paintings by Newbury artist and art teacher Donna Callahan. Her work favors landscapes and floral studies, chosen for their glorious colors. Ms Callahan currently teaches art and has been a guest demonstrator at the Topsfield Fair. Her paintings will be on display at the library through the month of June. New Museum Passes at the Rowley Library
The Friends of the Rowley Public Library have generously added a new museum pass to the library’s list of offerings: the Wenham Museum! Located on Boston’s historic North Shore, the Wenham Museum celebrates the treasures of childhood and New England family life. Their collection includes a model train gallery, a world-renowned doll and toy collection, a hands-on Family Discovery Gallery, and the 17th century Claflin-Richards-Gerrish house. The pass admits 4 people at half price. And don’t forget our other passes: the Museum of Science, the Peabody-Essex Museum, Zoo New England, Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Children’s Museum, and the Massachusetts State Park pass.
